NADRAH, Guest Designer:
I’m so obsessed with scrapbooking that I always have to have the latest idea book and I'm always checking out ads for inspiration and new fonts or looking for new suppliers with great new products...or thinking of great colour schemes and designs for my next project.
In a nutshell, I do what I do for the love of the craft and the joy of teaching it to others!
Tips for Creating Bird Cage At Home
You need to get a plain white bird cage. Sand it so that when you paint with
acrylic paint the color will stick nicely. Once the paint has dry, you
can start decorate it. As for the glass, I actually used a broken
glass from my broken frame. At least it is useful for this project. To
make it more dramatic , I color it with alcohol inks that gives a
really nice effect. I scattered them around the bird cage. Another tip
that I want to share is, inside the bird cage....before I place the
bird nest...I pour potpourri so that the bird cage has nice smell which
can be used as house warming gifts, scented decor, etc.
General Project Supplies
1) Plain White Bird Cage
2) Various Prima Flowers
3) Broken Glass (small pieces)
4) Butterfly Clay
5) Various Webster Page Papers
6) Potpourri Flowers
7) Decorative bird from wedding favors shop

BEST OVERALL STORY
CONGRATS RITA!!!
Rita, Guest Designer:
The basics:
married to my hubby for over 18 years, we have five kids. I scrap,
paint, sing - everything related to creative arts.
I have been crafting
for years, I even painted murals for a living (before five kids!)
I have been blogging my work for almost a year - you can find it
here http://letsembellish.
I love seeing and participating in all the amazing projects at Project 52 and I am honored to be a guest designer here!
TIPS TO MAKE THIS AT HOME:
This was so easy to put together and you can use whatever lovely trinkets you find around your house! For crafters this should be easy.
- I used a large ribbon to hold up my frame - used a cardboard piece and glued it onto the back of the frame with the ribbon sandwiched in between.
- I used tacky red tape to hold the beads and topped it with Glossy Accents so they would not fall off.
- The charms, bird and larger gems adhered nicely with glue dots.
- I printed my quote onto photo paper, first I used ink and an ink blending tool to apply ink in various places, as well as glimmer mist for the backdrop. The themes and possibilities are endless!
a box (mine happens to be wood, had this forever)
Various glass beads & acrylic beads
Vintage looking Metal charms (Madame Delphine's)
A bird, a bird cage ( Christmas ornaments on clearance at Michaels & Hobby Lobby)
A small decorative frame (garage sale find 50 cents!)
Paper (I used photo paper to print my quote)
Ribbon (Offray)
Flowers (Prima fabric fancies)

BEST OVERALL COMPOSITION
CONGRATS VICKI!!!
VICKI, GUEST DESIGNER:
My Bio:
I have been involved in arts and crafts since I was a child.
More recently I owned a faux painting and home décor business and an online scrapbook store.
I became involved in scrapbooking about five years ago and was instantly hooked.
I love all sorts of papercrafts, altered arts projects and mini albums.
I teach classes on a variety of topics from basic scrapbooking to complex technique heavy altered projects.
I also teach students to use tools like Purple Cows Trimmers and Zutter Bind It All and DreamKuts.
I host an annual crop for my daughter's Girl Scout troop.
I lost my Mom a few years ago and inherited a box of unmarked photos to chronicle my childhood.
I think scrapbooking is important to preserve memories for future generations, something I wish my mother would have thought important too.
I get my children involved in scrapping, making books and crafts, in general as often as possible.
My DD used my scrappy tools, including my Cricut, to complete her science fair projects!
I truly don't think there is anything you can't do with these hobbies.
I've made books, altered doors, built clocks and altered furniture...all in the name of crafting and, of course, FUN.
My scrappy style is eclectic, at best! Some days my pages are neat and simple.....others, I throw on everything I can get my hands on. I have a special love of distressed items and ephemera.

NOW FOR OUR BRILLIANT, LOVELY, AND SENSATIONAL
PROJECT 52 DESIGN TEAM'S INSPIRATION FOR
CHALLENGE #8
TANIA:
TIPS FOR CREATING THIS AT HOME:
I created a Collections Shadow box frame, and decorated it with the wire nest
with some glass beads. I used the Tim Holtz tiles to give gloss and
dimension to the shadow box frame. I then suspended the shadow box in a
frame using wire and more glass beads. The chipboard flowers were
coloured with colourwash, and while wet, I moulded them into a flower
shape and added more glass beads at the centers.
Supplies:
Frame from reject shop
Collections Shadow Box
Collections papers
Basic Grey Rubons
Collections chipboard Flowers and Birds
Glass Beads
Tim Holtz Acrylic Tiles
Kaiser Gems
Wire
Ribbon
Paints Inks and Colour Wash Spray

TIPS FOR MAKING THIS AT HOME:
- Plan your steps
- Start with background glimmer mist, then stamp tree
- Gate is stamped and trimmed.

WENDELA:
TIPS TO MAKE THIS AT HOME:
Paint
the wooden frame with gesso. Paint crackle paint when the gesso is dry
on it. Make a bundle of the birch wood and add it with a piece of tulle
at the frame. Make a sweet little bird with fabric, maybe re-used from
old clothes…
and glue this with a glue gun on the wood…
I
found a little mirror and broke it, with a big hammer of my DH J and
glued the pieces on the bird. Fill the frame with a piece of cardboard,
and maybe some lace are a piece of a crochet doily.
Supplies:
Wooden frame
Gesso
Birch wood
Feather
Tulle
Fabric from an old T shirt
Broken mirror
Corrugated cardboard (white)
Crochet doily (a little piece)
Small button
Crackle paint (ranger)
Birdcage chipboard (Maya Road)
Stickles (ranger)

KATIE J:
TIPS FOR MAKING THIS AT HOME:
If you're interested in making the bird out of clay, a tutorial is here!
Make nests by coiling
jute cord and fibers/ribbon together and gluing them down flat, then
gluing paper eggs and a bird on top of them. I used a paper bag as my
base, but you could also use kraft paper! For the 3D bird element, use
dimensional fabric paint to create the eyes. He will also better stand
up on the frame if he is propped up with strips of foamcore board
underneath his nest. you can also wrap wire around the foamcore board
and the bird's legs for extra support. Strong tacky glue works best to
keep everything together!
DRAWING A CITY LANDSCAPE:
- When drawing a city landscape, try the folk art approach and create whimsical buildings that aren't perfect. I only used a ruler as a general guideline.
- Cut windows out of patterned paper blocks, and use the blocks themselves to create visual interest.
metal frame

core'dinations cardstock
patterned paper

basic grey fibers
ribbon
jute cord
foamcore board

JAZ:
HOW TO MAKE THIS AT HOME:
- I made a 12 x 12 layout using white cardstock as the background.
- I
wanted the photo to looked pop-up, so I adhere a thick cardboard behind
the photo.
- Using lots of cut-outs, overlays and rub-ons on this page, I placed the fabric Prima flowers on the top left hand corner, and the title "Cherish".
- Place the photograph, used a cut-out little frame from Webster's Pages vellum as the centrepiece.
- On the right side of the layout, I've used lot's of cut outs to layer.
- Also using stamped image of a birdy.
- The yellow birds you see here are from the flea market.
- The birdhouse is from a budget shop. I punched two holes at the top of the birdhouse, tie up the string from the birdhouse onto the page.
- This layout is then to being framed onto a zen wood scrapbooking frame.
Supplies:
Webster's Pages Pattern Paper
Prima Patterned Paper
Prima Flowers
Hambly overlays
Birds
Birdhouse
Glass Marble stones

FINN:
TIPS FOR MAKING THIS AT HOME:
-
If you want to alter a wooden frame start with colouring it with a
proper paint or just acrylic paint mixed with lots of water - (it
should be water colored with paint in fact)
- the effect will be interesting and you get a nice, light colour and the structure of wood is still visible.
- Adding metal elements isn't easy - most of glues won't work, but you still can use glue dots, hot glue gun or Glossy Accents by Ranger - it's also perfect for gluing glass and acrylic. As long as it is a wooden base you can aways use some screws ;)
- I started this creation with colouring the frame.
- When it was completely dry I added the paper strips and laces and put metal frame in the middle of the wooden frame.
- The next step was adding the gauze, flowers and mosiaic elements made of Tim Holtz's Fragments and Cosmo Cricket paper.
- I sprayed a bit of glimmer mists and let it dry again.
- The last step was adding metal gears, eggs, liquid beads and pins and colouring it all a bit with alcohol inks.
Have fun with creating!
Supplies:
6x6"" wooden frame from an old canvas
brown paint (chestnut)
Cosmo Cricket papers - Fleuriste
laces and collage prima flowers
a bit of gauze,
Glimmer Mists - Olive Wine and Honey Dew,
metal - old clock's elements,
glass - liquid glass beads,
an old watch frame,
mosaic elements,
gem pins by Making Memories,
alcohol inks in the shades of green and yellow.
The bird - a decorative metal bird with some of my parrot's feathers in the tail
3 mini easter eggs

IS
KATHARMONY!!!!
This started off as a black shadowbox. I
gesso-ed the crap out of it and sprayed it multiple times with walnut
gold glimmer mist. And I sprinkled some white glitter here and there as
well. I used butterflies as my insects and I thought this awesome photo
of my niece would be perfect since they laid her on wings to take it.
For the fabric part of the challenge I used a few different things. I
backed my picture with pink felt. I used a little bit of burlap at the
base of my flowers. I lined the inside edges of this with a ruffled
velvet ribbon. And the butterfly at the top on the outside is made of
embroidery thread I believe. I loved doing this project! Thanks for looking!
Katye, PM me your email address although I think I have it!
Alright Bad Girls, I'm so curious to see what you'll create for Challenge #8, you all just get more and more creative and outstanding with each project!
