Welcome Bad Girls to Our New Project 52 Challenge #5: Mixed Media ATC's!
What is an ATC?
ATC stands for Altered Trading Card, a miniature work of art meant to trade ideally in person; on the back is the signature, date, and number (if it is part of an edition)What size is an ATC?
2 ½ X 3 ½ inch or 64 X 89 mm cardstock alwaysWhat types of art are accepted?
According to the original ATC site in Switzerland, all types of art and all techniques are accepted. For our challenge it MUST be MIXED MEDIA ART.Sounds fun, right? There were several of us on the Design Team who were first-timers, and right away turned into ATC-addicts!!! Play with us, join us!
You'll be making 4 ATC's, please see all RULES below and follow them strictly.
Here is inspiration from our design team:
Julie Ann: I have a confession to make. I'm not good at swaps because I procrastinate going to the post office forever. That's one of the reasons I've never gotten into ATC mania. As a beginner, for this challenge I wanted to go big or go home! Now don't be intimidated, you just have to make FOUR ATC's for the drawing.
"Tree Of Life"
I decided to interpret the theme from birth to death. I found the awesome stand to display the ATC cards and it happens to be called "Tree Of Life: 3 Dimensional Scrapbook". The tree is supposed to grow with your life.
Tips to make this at home: I found this fun tutorial at a stamping website where you make a nice transparency & crepe paper "sandwich"! First, have your ATC base image complete. Then spread Diamond Glaze over it. Lay crepe paper (I used creme, you can use white or another light color) on next, and make sure it sticks really well to the Diamond Glaze so that the image shows through the crepe paper. Sprinkle some glitter on. Next, with your transparency cut to the size of the ATC, if you want to stamp on the transparency or add a rubon, do that now. Then, turn it over and spread Diamond Glaze lightly on the wrong side of it. Put a few drops of alcohol ink or glimmer mist onto the Diamond Glaze, and swirl it with either a popscicle stick or put on a rubber glove and use your finger. Now turn the transparency over, right side up, and line it up to your ATC and place it on, and press down lightly. Finish embellishing as necessary. Voila!

Francesca couldn't stop at just one set. After about a week, she sent me a second set of ATC's!
Supplies:
Transparency: Hambly, 7 Gypsey's
PP: assorted pp from scrap drawer
Bling: Heidi Swapp jumbo crystal brad
Wings: ArtCHIX Studio
Heart: Heidi Swapp chipboard
Alphas: Making Memories
Arcylic Paint: golden titanium white; golden teal

ATC paper: cut from Fabriano cold pressed watercolour paper

Tip to recreating this project:
Glue
random pieces of scrap paer to completely cover the ATC, splash on some
white paint, and when that dries splash on some teal paint. When that
dries, add on your embellishments. So fun, so easy and so wonderfully
pretty. Hope you enjoy this challenge as much as I did!
Francesca's Set #2:
I've never made ATCs before, and I
think I've become addicted..!!
Supplies used:
transparency - hambly and fancy pants design (the green one)
beads/baubles/pearls - jewellery bits
1" circle punch
jump rings
wire
ribbon
Tip to recreating these:
Simply cut down the transparency to standard ATC size, punch out a 1"
circle at the top, and adhere beads. Wrap around ribbon two time and tie.
Adhere words.
Tania: I went "dark" with my ATC's
These ATC's by Tania are perfect for those obsessed with vampires, and hits like True Blood.
Supplies:
Kromekote card ( shiny card)
Candle
Matte Fixative
German scrap
Brads
Transparency
Red paint
How to re-create this at home: I used the soot technique and some graveyard stamps to create my backgrounds, then used the transparency and watered down red paint, poured it on and let it run down the transparency to simulate blood. Then I cut out pieces and stuck it to the backgrounds. Added some German scrap and brads and they were done. The words were printed on the computer, mounted on chipboard for some depth. I created the stand , totally inspired by the ones in the Bad Girls shop by using chipboard, and black paint.
“Angel ATCs”
Series Edition of 4
“Angel ATCs”
Supplies:
clear acetate
packaging, rubber stamps, Staz-On Ink (black), alcohol ink (Ranger),
angel images, Glossy Accents (Ranger), Versamark ink, gold embossing
powder
How to re-create this at home: I used clear packaging for the base of the ATCs. To
create the background, I stamped on the plastic using Staz-On ink. Make
sure when stamping on a non-porous surface (such as glass or plastic)
you use a solvent based ink to prevent smearing. I applied alcohol inks
strait from the bottle, and let it drip down the card. The angel images
were added with glossy accents, which dries clear. When embossing on
plastic, be careful not to heat too quickly, as this can cause the
plastic to warp. If the plastic becomes too warped, you can place a
piece of cardstock or chipboard over the plastic (while it’s still
warm), and press it until it lies flat.
I chose the life theme and chose images to represent different aspects.
Life is Mysterious
The Back of Aimee's Cards:
Wendela: My
theme is new life!! I love eggs
Supplies:
atc cards, blanco
wool felt
lace
bird images printed on a transparent sheet
sewing machine
iron leaves, swirl and flower
birch bark, found during a walk
How to make this at home?? It's simple! Print some images on a sheet, and add
it with your sewing machine on the wool felt, with the lace on it, and after
that put it on your blanco atc card, with tiny stitchings or some glue. Have
fun!! And Yeah!! I’m addicted!

CONGRATS TO JEANNIE
OUR DECEMBER BAD GIRLS PROJECT 52 GUEST DESIGNER
Here is my doll. She is actually made of metal;
a found bird cage. Her theme is joy & sadness; as Marie Antoinette
is my inspiration. I fashioned a cake from foam, printed paper, faux
pearls & bling. Also the cake is painted with a frosted glaze that
did not photograph well.
