November Sneak Peeks "La Traviata".....

With all that I have on my plate lately, I thought it would be quite appropriate to celebrate being a woman...and girls, I know when I say this, you completely understand me when I say that we as women not only should, but need to give ourselves our credit for all that we do. I am still struggling day to day with creating balance in my life and trying to manage all that I do. It is not easy, but as women, I noticed that we are very strong...we are not quitters....we are brave, and we are always willing to step up to the challenges that life creates for us. So, November's kit means quite a lot to me, and I will say honestly, that if you are on Auto Ship, and this kit is yours, then count yourself as very special. Countless hours went into searching out just the right elements that I thought epitomized what I am feeling right now and I how I wanted to convey that artistically. So.....without further adieu please let me introduce you to:

"La Traviata".......

The reason for the title "La Traviata" is because of its literal meaning..."The Woman Who Strayed"...Hmmmm.....you might be wondering how do I relate to this? Well....I am trying so very hard right now to stray from what is my life as I know it and trying to adapt myself to a more appropriate lifestyle that fits all of my goals and dreams. I have so many new businesses on the table right now, and trying to fit that in with everything else is quite honestly very daunting, but I cannot deny my passions....So....moving along...then I found a gorgeous vintage opera music book, and along with antique sheet music paper I was left breathless when I saw this image from "La Traviata" in the book....

WOW! This just spoke volumes to me....for me, at least, where I am at....this picture evoked so many feelings in me...drama....surprise....passion...excitement....just to name a few. I knew I just had to have this for the canvas that I am going to be creating with the November kit. So, then if its an antique original...what to do? I am having it painstakingly reproduced so that all of you can have it to. You know that is not my norm...I ususally give everyone a different sheet so that its authentic vintage, which is our trademark, but this one...ummmm.....I just knew you girls would have to have it to, right???!!!

The papers that we are going to be using for "La Traviata" are so very pretty and speak volumes of how I feel.....here is a tiny sampling...

This kit has a lot of really special vintage finds that I hunted down....take a look at these cards from the 1930's....in mint condition, and very rare to find in perfect condition and quantity like these.....can you see how they fit my theme perfectly???? Soooooo very BAD GIRLS too!!!!!....Eeekkkkkkkkk!!!!!.......

I was soooo very excited when I found these in the huge quantity that I did...so hold on to your seats girlies....you are about to be super surprised with which one you will get in your kit....yours will be original...there are NO two alike!!! And these cards are very thick and very large...approx. 4" X 6"....a gorgeous focal point for the canvas that is November's project!!!! And what a better way to celebrate being a woman??? To me, these just speak volumes of what it means to be female and feel alive and sexy....come on girlies....you are all sexy and you need to create something that reminds you of that every single day!

Another mind blowing find that I came across is these very old, and i might add, in perfect condition, Dick and Jane flashcards....take a peek....

12" X 3", these are sooooo very rare and unique....imagine the possibilities!!!!! I am still pinching myself that I found the entire huge box of them intact with 100's of flashcards...enough for all of my bad girlies...nothing could make me happier!!!

Hello Bad Girls!

It's a pleasure to be here with you today!

Let's make a treasure box using some of our favs vintage images from your Bad Girls Kits.

Let's get and old box that was only geting dusty and transform it in a useful piece of art!

This box can hold lots of things and mine is were I'll keep all my wishes hopes and thoughts.

Take a peek on the sides of the box.

 

 

Ok so let's start this baby.

First you have to measure and cut the paper to cover all your box.

 

Once it's dry you can scratch with the scissors the edges of the box.

Add some paper scraps around as you can see on the photo below.

Get all the embellies together to prepare your collage on the box.

 

If you have one of those cute envelopes open it and cut all in parts to glue down on the sides of your box.

Cut out the flowers from the websters paper.

Go ahead and start your collage on the top of the box as you see on the photo.

 

Now the fun part.

Lets make some paper roses.

1. Cut out by hand or punch some circles.

2. Cut those circles as an spiral from outside to inside.

3. start rolling the paper from outside.When you reach the end hold it,lift the end of the paper and add some glue to hold all the rolled layers together.

4.Hold it for a few seconds and it's done!

Look how prety they are!

You can make as many as you like to decorate all sort of things.

Elements d'Art: Halloween Party Hat

Hi Bad Girls! 

All Hallow's Eve is just around the corner, have you got your costume picked out? I've been busy brewing potions, dusting off skeletons, shooing away bats and lighting jack-o-lanterns. Well...ok, maybe I haven't. But I have been busy making Halloween party hats. I thought it would be fun to put a couple of my favorite things together, my love for Halloween and pin up girls to create a fun and flirty party hat.

Supplies used:

One sheet 12x12 pattern paper

Witch pin up girl image

Two silver pipe cleaners

Glitter

Two stars and one bat chipboard

20 gauge wire

Crepe paper

Black pom pom trim

Spray adhesive and glue

Needle and thread

To make the cone shape, draw a wide triangle, then changed the bottom from a straight line to a curved shaped. Cut out the triangle and put a line of glue down one side of the triangle, then roll it into a cone shape.

Print out "Witchy Woman" on cardstock and cut out. (I used the font "Coffee Tin")

Next, we're going to make the rosette. Cut one crepe paper strip 1/2" wide by 6" long.Take your needle and do a running stitch through the length of the crepe paper. Gather the ends together and pull until it forms a circle. Tie it off by making a couple of knots.  
Use spray adhesive on the bare chipboard and sprinkle on the glitter

The next step is just coiling the wire (cut two 6" pieces)  and pipe cleaners around a pen. Take the wire coils and glue them to the back of the stars

 

Take your orange crepe paper and cut it into narrow strips.Glue to the top of the hat, glue the stars with wires to the top of the hat as well. 

Now we're ready to put it all together! 

Attach the rosette to the front of the hat, place the pin up girl image on top of the rosette. Stick the pipe cleaners behind the rosette, adhere bat to rosette. Place "Witchy Woman" phrase across pin up image. Adhere pom pom trim around the bottom of the trim. 

The finished product!

Elements d'Art: Autumn Welcome Sign

I always anticipate the arrival of Fall, when my home turns into an open door gathering place, welcoming family, friends and neighbors. That gave me the idea for this project, to create a welcome sign to greet my guests at our courtyard's front gate. I wanted to use a mix of rich textures and soft muted colors, all inspired by Autumn.

 
 
 To start, I love using chipboard album pages, for my signs. I find that they are super sturdy and already have the holes in place for the ribbon! I used 2 pieces of chipboard in an 8x8 size.

Technique 1: Paper Pleating

I love how girly and ruffly the paper becomes after a few simple steps. For the base of my sign, I cut clothing patterns into long 2 inch wide strips, and gathered the paper, making lots of pleats as I sewed one side. (you can achieve the same look by using a stapler, and stapling every couple of pleats too.) Then glue them to the edges of my chipboard page. After the glue dries, you can fluff up the paper and I also added a piece of dark brown lace over the top of the gathered patterns.

 

Next is the fun part! Using the 2nd. chipboard page, I used a mix of papers, textured wall paper, tulle and fabric to create layers. I lightly distressed the edges of the papers. Once all of the paper layers were in place and adhered, I added 2 types of trim, one beaded and one upholstery tassels. (i love touchy-feeling elements of paper projects!) Once I was done layering all of the paper onto the chipboard, I used E6000 glue to adhere both of the chipboard pages together.
 
Technique 2. Stamp Ink Masking

For the title, I really wanted it to stand out a bit, so this was the perfect chance to layer using various textures rather than just papers. I started with a plain piece of shaped cardboard, painted the cardboard and then sanded down the edges and used a masking technique with a paper doily. I loved the texture of the cardboard and didn't want to cover it up too much, so I placed a doily in the middle and blotted a gold ink pad over the top of the doily. It created this light dainty pattern, which I loved!!
 
This is a quick tutorial to make your own handmade flower! I love an unexpected splash of color, and flowers are always pretty adornments! 
 
  Technique 3: Flower Embellishment

Materials:
1 piece of fabric cut into a strip (mine was 8 in. long)
yarn
beads
needle and thread
 
Directions:

1. Cut 5-6 scallops into the piece of fabric
2. use a running stitch to sew the length of the strait part of fabric
3. gather the ends of the thread, pull fabric tightly together and knot
4. gather the yarn into a loose ball and stitch into the center of the flower
5. sew a few beads into the center of the yarn, and knot the thread again.

  
  I finished my sign with a few extras, a thirfted crocheted doily, a couple of leaves and a row of buttons. I'm always looking for pretty found objects that will fit into my Fall theme! Hope this inspires you to create something Autumnish this season! xo~ Tara
 

Element d'Art: Leather Mini Album

Hello Bad Girls!!

One of my very favorite things to create are mini books! I love creating on such a smaller scale and the pages themselves become mini creations within the scale of the album. Each one is unique in it's own way and offers a new perspective every time you turn a page. This mini leather album is so rich in texture and offers so many possibilities.

The cover is decorated in flowers, swirls and a beautiful butterfly. I placed fabric letters in the flower center and sprayed the entire album in Glimmer Mist. Wlanut Gold is my absolute favorite color! I love the shabby and aged effect I get when I spray it on any surface.

This first page, I paint a few layers of color onto the background. Then I placed an iron on (tree) onto the page over the paint. The flower centers look so sweet in a row at the bottom of the page-it adds a pop of color and sparkle.

Once again-the layered paint look took over! I painted over the edges of the canvas paper in the same cream color. Then i added some iron on branches to the sides and used packaging to matte my photo. I love using unexpected things within my books. i think it adds so much character.
 

Each page is unique but I carried over the same techniques on each page for a unified look even if each page is entirely different.

Notice the slice of packaging along the bottom of the page?

Clear pages are some of my very favorite to work with. I love using the elements on the other pages behind it to enhance it. It also forces me to become creative and be aware of how it all comes through. I like challenges like that. Here I added a "spray" of pearls centers to flow over the page. And packaging is anchoring the photo and elements for both sides of the clear page.

Double dipped and it works!

Each and every page is so unique and yet they all work so well within the book as a whole. I sprayed each page with the glimmer mist so the colors all stay muted and aged. It flows so well together...
