Are you ready for some inspiration? I have been feeling very much a homebody lately. It must be autumn or something in the air. Here is a house sculpture that I made using handmade paper, metal, and a variety of found objects, scraps, and techniques.
I had made some handmade paper in the summer with cut out birds and inclusions of lace paper, music paper, and other fibers embedded into the pulp. I cut them out into a house shape and stitched it together.
The roof is embossed metal! It's one of my favorite techniques! I am loving the look of embossing metal using a stylus, texture plate, and thin sheets of metal that you can buy at a craft store. It's easy and looks so cool! If you have a die cut machine that allows you to use texture folders, you can do that too!
When you are finished, flip it over to see your rich and detailed texture! You can achieve the same look with an embossing envelope and a die cut machine. I just like the texture plates I own and my machine is not wide enough to use this size metal through.
I punched holes in the metal for stitching using a small hole punch and needle. I also glued ribbon on the edges and cardboard borders at the top for decoration.
