Winter has officially made itself known and much to my happy self, I enjoy this season with hopeless abandon...everything is quieter, cozier, and I feel a sense of peace and inner calm.
When it came to the design of the January kit, I really wanted to evoke this feeling so that I could document this wonderful season with passion and ease. Look no further than these photos to see inside my feelings for this kit....
Notice the calming palette, the architecture, the sense of restful peace.......I LOVE IT, and so are you!!! Here are a couple of peeks at the upcoming January Kit...hope you enjoy!
Hello Ladies....well, it's been a while hasn't it? I have missed all of you so much, so don't be surprised if I make up for it a little too much by blabbing my mouth a bit too much...LOL...I have to make up for all of my down time....hehehhehehehe...and no...I haven't had sugar tonight...:), although I have thought about raiding the box of See's candy one too many times. ;) The only glass half full thoughts I have with having the flu is that my booty did shrink a bit...bwahahhahahhahaha, and I really hope I can keep those pounds off if only the candy box can quit calling my name darn it! *wendy......you know you want rich creamy chocolate* *Me: lalallallalallalallalala...I can't hear you* OK.....now off to some scrappy chit chat.....
First, I want to show you all the yummalicious kits that I designed for December and I have a couple of really interesting stories (bear with me girls....at least I think they're worthy of listening to.....heheheheh) to tell ya.
First of all....let's take a good look at the main kit: "Grannies Attic"....this kit was designed with many things swirling through my head. Anyone who knows me has knowledge that I will not create themed kits for my main kits...I like a little more versatility when it comes to creating, so when I was thinking about this kit, and I saw the GORGEOUS line of OH SO PRETTY papers by GRAPHIC 45, I knew these were perfect! Not only are they cute, cute, cute, but they screamed versatility to me. I can see vintage art, christmas art, everyday art....the sky is certainly the limit......
Good grief....did I tell you to grab your hot chocolate girlies???? I am so sorry....my bad...hurry...go get it...I will wait for you....this is going to be a good long chat session *wink wink*....and no....I am NOT going to gossip....hahhahahhahahha....
OK.....you're back...ahhhh...thanks for grabbing me one too my sweets! :)
So....now my story about the vintage Bill of Lading in your kit.......
You girlies know that I am always scouting out the best and most interesting antiques for your kits, and on this particular day when I was browsing a new antique store I spied a huge stack of these in a locked case. At first I feigned no interest after a peek, and then something made me go back for a bettter look. I had the attendant open the case and on top of the bundle was the story of where these came from that piqued my interest further...here is what it reads:
"Dent Hardware Company in Fullerton, Pennsylvania was in business from 1895 to 1973. They started making cast iron toys in 1898. Known for fine castings in its vehicles, one of the first manufacturers to try with little success aluminum toys in the 1920's. Toys were phased out during the the hard tome of the depression. The Shipping slips and orders date from 1918 to 1931."
I dont know about you girls, but to have a little bit of history behind the paper always renders it more interesting to me. It is only icing on the cake that the documents are almost 100 years old and in such good condition, have such interesting graphics (note the cool number "3", the purple stamping on the top, the column listings, and much to my surprise....and why I fell in love is the "vintage toy" theme that goes so well with the kit.....( also note the words "Railroad Company")....and we have train paper!!!! A perfect fit, no???? ;) I just know they will add so much interest to your artwork!!! If you're like me and you must have more than one, LOOK HERE.....we were able to purchase enough to add to our STORE!!!
So.....when I get to the counter to pay, I am about ready to pass out when I spy in the counter case, safely protected from grubby little hands, a whole plethora of Vintage Pharmacy Labels!!! take a peek...
Ackkkkkkkkk.....I hoped that they had enough, and I stood there and counted them one by one and I was so pleasantly pleased when there was not only enough for my kits, but enough to add some to the BAD GIRLS STORE!!!! Aren't they devine???? You gotta love the artwork, the fonts, the originality....and OMG!!!!....can you imagine all the possibilities???!!!! So, if you have a penchant for all things vintage and you have to have more, please LOOK HERE to purchase all you need!
Now..I must admit, I have been spending a lot of time shopping for the vintage goodies lately, and I have been loving the finds that I have been coming across....some of my favorites can be found in the December Add On Kit "Timeless Trinkets"....my mouth fell to the ground when I stumbled across the vintage casino poker chips and as I listened to the owner tell me the story about the gold chips and how they are soooo ancient they are made of chipboard...imagine girlies...they found chipboard before us!!! LOL.....she actually broke one of them open to prove it to me...you would never guess that is what they used to make them out of, huh??? I was soooo pleasantly pleased...and for their age...they are in pristine condition! The lotto cards are from Germany, the Bingo cards are so awesome, and you will adore the possibilities with the wooden lotto and bingo markers and the playing cards are so funky cool!!!
I also had a lot of fun creating the December Add On Kit "Trunkful Of Treasures"....the Prima Build-a-Bauble stamps in this kit are beyond FUN!!!! Take a peek at all the gems you get too!
When I was designing the December Add On Kit "Cutsie Tootsie Whimsies" I really was hoping that my obsessive love and adoration for all things girlie and glitzy came through....I think I did well! Take a peekie!
December Add On Kit "Precious Little Pretties" had to be one of my favorites because of all the vintage fun-loving goodies that I found with this kit in mind. I simply adore the Yogi Bear cards, the school flash cards from the 40's, and the page from a 1940's Anatole book. These momentos take me on a long, pleasurable trip down memory lane when I once played with these same treasures....ahhhhh....what fun to reminisce and to be able to have these goodies to add to our grown up artwork....such a blessing!

Bad Girls Kits are known for being different and exciting. Wendy always
includes elements that challenge each of us artistically. Whether it be an
interesting color combination, a pack of vintage candy, some Hambly mixed in
with vintage papers, each kit pushes us to venture outside the box. Why not apply this outside-the-box thinking to our own pages? Just
because most scrapbook paper comes in a 12x12 size, doesn’t mean that we have to
limit ourselves to a 12x12 square. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with borders
and I’ve had so much fun doing so. Some easy ways of breaking the 12x12 limit
are to cut your paper into a large circle. (A large dinner plate works great as
a template.) Or what about cutting your paper into another shape like a heart?
Or a star? You can also cut your background paper down to a smaller size and
extend your page using various shapes like I did in Bluebell. If you want to do something a bit more conservative, you can easily add
scallops to your edges by using a small circle punch and adhering the punched
circles to the border of your pages. (Look at my October kit creations for an
illustration of this.) On Remember You’re Amazing, I did this on a bigger
scale using a quilt as inspiration. If you worry about fitting your page into a page protector, as I do,
simply lay an unused sheet of 12x12 cardstock behind your workspace and make
sure that you don’t put anything on your page that extends past that piece of
cardstock. The possibilities are endless when you don’t limit yourself! Happy
